Favourite Android Apps - Part 1 - utilities / tools

Having now had my HTC Desire for a few months, I've experimented with a fair few apps and have ended up with those I like the most.

Let's start with Smart Shortcuts. It allows you to organise apps into groups of your own preference and display on your home screens - much neater than having lots of random widgets.

Astro is predominantly a file manager, but also allows you to see how much free space you have, as well as providing a Process Manager and the ability to back up your apps.

SDrescan seems to solve the issue of photos disappearing from your SD card (it does a quick "sort" and then everything you thought you'd lost is back)

IP Manage allows different profiles to be set up for use at home, work or anywhere else really. Where I have a static IP with fixed DNS at home, a mere change of profile means I have my work settings accessible too.

There doesn't seem to be a standard text editor within my phone, so Text Edit does the job.

Astrid Tasks syncs smoothly with Google Tasks and is perfect for making brief reminders.

1Password works with its Mac equivalent to provide a secure locker of website sign ons.

3G Watchdog keeps track of 3G data usage to help you keep within your carrier's data limits.

Docs = Google Docs

Dropbox - does anyone need telling what this does?!

ConnectBot - Secure Shell login to servers, etc

Lookout - virus scanning, security and backup

SMS Backup - self explanatory

Translate - Google Translate

RingGo - payments by mobile
